Occasional entries in genealogy forums questions this shipping list as the source for John and Elizabeth's arrival in Southland.

The original source for the shipping list is the Southland Times containing the names of new arrivals. We know from other documents that Janet Elizabeth most likely used Elizabeth rather than Janet and Isabella is the latinised version of Elizabeth. An absence of the name Isabella in the BDM death index in spite of the very high occurrence there off in the Southland Times shipping list supports my working assumption that Isabella has been used as substitute for Elizabeth. I am continuing under the working assumption that the three arrivals were John DEACON, his wife Elizabeth(Isabella) and his sister Agnes.
